The Faithfulness of Our God

"The Rock! His work is perfect, For all His ways are just; A God of faithfulness and without injustice, righteous and upright is He." -Deuteronomy 32:4

"For the word of the LORD is upright, and all His work is done in faithfulness." -Psalm 33:4

Our God is the faithful and immutable Creator, who sets us apart and calls us by name! His faithfulness to us cannot be broken by anything. When we stray from the upright path He pursues us... when we fall down He picks us up! When we are unlovable, by those around us, He loves us with an everlasting love. This love is the result of Christ's finished work on the cross...

When Jesus Christ died on the cross, He died for our sins once and for all. Because of His faithful sacrifice on the cross, God is faithful to us even when we are not faithful to Him... However, this does not mean that we can live in unrepentant sin and ignore the commands of our God. Anyone who calls themselves a Christian and yet bears no fruit... we have already referenced this issue once before... " 'Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away..." (John 15:2). This is not a "time-out" kind of taking away either. This is complete separation from Christ as the life-giving vine. However, if you have the fruit of Christ in your life, you will not be removed from the vine, but will be pruned so that you become more fruitful. This is again the faithfulness of our God!

God is faithful to prune and grow us, as Christians, and to develop in us a love for Him and the things that are of Him. He has called us His children and, as our Heavenly Father, He is faithful to fulfill His role as our loving and caring Father... stern, but loving, in all things! He is faithful to address and correct the behavior in our lives that is detrimental to us and to cultivate, in its place, the fruit of the Spirit.

We are told that we must, "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you." (Matthew 7:7) "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." (Matthew 6:21). These two verses speak heavily of the faithfulness of our God, but also of our faithfulness to the work of Christ... you see, we must ask, seek, and knock with a God-glorifying goal in mind. This is what it means to have your treasures where your heart is... we must treasure Christ so much that our requests to God are made in an attempt to bring more glory to Him! He is not obligated to fulfill our every desire simply because we ask Him for something.

We will look more into our faithfulness, as a response to God's faithfulness, tomorrow. For now, I would like us to meditate on the faithfulness of God in light of our unfaithfulness as sinful human beings... God does not call us to Himself because we are good people, or because we have never sinned. No, He calls us to Himself because He is God! There is no other explanation that I can give to the faithfulness of God! He calls us, the depraved sinner, and saves us out of eternal punishment. Our wretched souls do not deserve this favor, but God saves us anyways.... look at Ephesians 2:1-10 "And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest. But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them."

I love this passage... "But God..." What an amazing truth! "But God" loved us so much that He gave Himself up for us... such love and faithfulness to a people so undeserving of any favor! "But God" pursues us, "even when we were dead in our transgressions," and shows us forgiveness through His Son.... this is a humbling truth to digest. That God would love us so much, when we have done nothing to deserve it... this is the level of faithfulness that our God shows to us!

Friends, take this day to thank God and praise Him for His faithfulness to you. Think about what your life would be without His love and grace...
Perhaps you do not understand what I am talking about... perhaps you've never experienced what it means to have a relationship with God... If so, I would ask that you find someone to talk to who can help answer any questions you might have about this love and faithfulness that is never-ending! You are free to e-mail me with any questions you might have... afflquestions@yahoo.com . But I would encourage you to find a local pastor or trusted friend who can help you search the Scriptures and help you understand what you must do, in response to the love and faithfulness of God. Search your heart... you know that faithfulness is something that you greatly desire! We are a people who are tired of lies and deceit... we want truth! Truth is found within the pages of God's Word! Search it! Seek and you WILL find!

Friends, rest in the faithfulness of our God! Thank Him for His never-ending love and mercy upon your life! And ask God to prepare your hearts for what we must do in response to His faithfulness towards us. We will begin looking at our response to God's faithfulness, tomorrow.

Grace and Peace!
